The Swedish lead partner and initiator of the „Baltic Biogas Bus“ project is „SL- Stockholm Public Transport“ Stockholm transport authorities. The public bus service in Stockholm has been converted to biogas. The great majority of the biogas produced in Sweden is used as vehicle fuel. Already since 1996 in Trollhättan, Sweden biogas buses are used in urban transport. The cities of Linkoping, Uppsala and Kristianstad operate the majority of public transport buses with biogas. In total there are already 779 biogas buses in use. Biogas is exempted from tax in Sweden and in society it is entrenched as a clean, renewable fuel.
Sweden is a pioneer in the field of using biogas as a fuel in Europe and in the EU and wants to encourage other companies to adapt.
